Wiltshire's secret Spitfires - a September date

Wiltshire's secret Spitfires

A piece of fascinating Wiltshire history. The Friends of Chippenham Museum have arranged a showing of this documentary film, which will include a Q&A session with Norman Parker, history advisor for the film and WWII Spitfire engineer.

It will be shown on Tuesday 3 September 2019 (The 80th anniversary of declaration of war) 330 pm at the Neeld Hall, Chippenham

It tells the story of hundreds of women, girls and a handful of men who built Spitfires in secret during WW2. In 1940, the Germans destroyed the Spitfire factories in Southampton, but unknown to them, the British were building Spitfires in secret. Salisbury, and other parts of Wiltshire become major centres for manufacturing over 2000 Spitfires.
