Michael Hicks

Professor Michael Hicks was Professor of Medieval History at the University of Winchester and was Head of History 1999-2014. He is a late medievalist specialising in the Wars of the Roses. He has published a dozen books and many articles, the latest on English Inland Trade 1430-1540: Southampton and its Region.

He was Assistant Editor of the Victoria History of the County of Middlesex and remains active in local history, including Wiltshire. He has helped run many local societies, e.g. Southern History Society and the Hampshire Field Club, and served on the central Victoria County History committee. He retired in 2014 and now lives in Taunton.
